Established in 1959, Howard Fong Sr. and his wife started the Rice Bowl as a Chinese Restaurant off old highway 99. Since then, the restaurant has prospered and expanded. The famous B Special meal has been a mainstay and still is one of Chico's favorite. Back when Chico was voted best Party Schools in the Nation, the Rice Bowl was voted one of the best Chinese Restaurants and best Bars by the locals. In 1999, Howard Fong Sr. decided to retire and sold the business. It was a sit down restaurant and then became a Chinese Buffet before closing after 5 years. The children of Howard Fong Sr. took it over, renovated the entire building and established 3 different cuisines (Chinese, Japanese, and Sushi). And even though the parents are "retired", they both come to restaurant on a consistent basis. In fact, Howard Fong Sr. can be seen here daily, greeting new and old guests to the restaurant.
